Other facts about nitrogen
Nitrogen was also used in the gas chambers of WWII.
Nitrogen also destroys the ozone layer exposing earth to high levels of dangerous radiation.
Nitrogen also causes Cancer.(But only in the state of California.)
Nitrogen may also combust under certain conditions, creating dangerous byproducts sutch as:
- NO, which is a colourless, odourless, deathly gas
- NO2, which is a reddish-brown gas with a pungent odour.
- N2O (nitrous oxide)
- NO3 (nitrogen trioxide)
- N2O4
- N2O5
Nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas and also causes damage to the ozone layer.
N2O4 is a dimer in equilibrum with NO2 and N2O5 is very
unstable, usually only present in significant quantities at night (it is broken by sunlight).
